We made it

Our home got hit with the stomach bug last weekend.  Heidi and I remained healthy and decided to celebrate today by going shopping at Cherry Creek mall where we met Santa and the Ice Princess.

Tonight was the Fortna Christmas party that we all enjoyed. Henry had a little accident and ended up not wearing pants most of the party.  He looked like Tom Cruise in the movie Risky Business with his socks on and button-down shirt with the white diaper showing under his shirt tail.  Wish I had a photo of it.

3rd birthday

December 8 was Heidi's 3rd birthday.  We had a friend over for brunch & cake.  She got a Mickey Mouse guitar.

Crashing down

Heidi climbed her dresser at nap time to get her 'white noise' phone.  Amazing she walked away with no injuries.  Time to child proof her dresser.

Dresser undressed

Heidi's latest gig.....opening drawers, trying on clothing, climbing up her dresser & throwing all her clothing on the floor.  And her opening act is....biting Henry on the cheek!

2 vs 1 - Day Three

Heidi skipped breakfast and subsequently bonked while riding her Zipper balance bike for the first time.  Yeah, I chuckled a little bit.

Once Henry awoke from his morning nap we went to Home Depot and grabbed a race car shopping cart for a quick lap around the store.  With an awesome autumn day we then went to Founders Park for a picnic lunch.  As usual, I completely forgot to take any pictures of the mayhem.

After a two hour nap Heidi swung from my suspension trainer while I fiddled with an incomplete fork replacement on my singlespeed.
It's been about 2 months since I returned to work following Bridget's birth and in that time Heidi and Henry have really learned how to play with one another.  And when they play well with one another it's just awesome.

2 vs 1 - Day Two

After a slow morning we ventured south to visit Nani and Paka for a late lunch.

After walking Nani's dogs we drove home for dinner and a movie.  As I suspected, but am certainly happy to have confirmed, Wall-E was a hit.  After interest waned we cleaned up the house and then it was early to bed for everyone.

2 vs 1 - Day One

We got home from the morning airport run and within an hour we were "camping" in the basement.  We bought marshmallows but I'm too lazy to light the grill for something I feel is better raw.

In the afternoon the weather was great for a walk to the park.  Heidi rode her Strider both ways and yet she acted as though she grabbed one of my Red Bull's from the fridge.

We finished the day with an easy dinner and the kids enjoyed a long bubble bath before bed.  I savored my last Wake Up Dead Nitro, took a breath, and fell asleep watching the hockey game.

When life gives you lemons, you get on the saddle

The day before "2 vs 1" wasn't going to be easy.

And then my car had an aneurysm while driving to the gym during lunch.  This was not seven days past my VW's last fuel system failure in which a new fuel pump left a solid bruise upon my checking account.  I called the ever-reliable USAA and a tow truck driver not a month out of Brooklyn hauled my car back to Firestone.

Somehow our schedules aligned and Lexi was able to pick me up and get me home while all three kids were napping with Ms Heidi.  I quickly hopped on my laptop to initiate some database work that had been dogging me for most of the week; apparently a clear solution only required hanging out in my car outside a gas station for 70 minutes.

And were it not for Lexi I would have missed the opportunity that was in front of me.  It was a simple "you should go for a ride" and all of the sudden my legs got jittery and my taint went numb.  I kept it simple because I knew my window of opportunity was closing quickly.  And before I could even comprehend where I was, singletrack lay ahead of me and I was pedaling.  And it was good.

Heidi-Ho, off to school we go!

Heidi leaving the house for her first day of "school" with Ms Shelley on September 4th.  Notice the lack of tears; these happy smiles have continued (for everyone) in the 2+ weeks since she started.

Family Party

We had a little family gathering with the Gommels and Proanos.  Our new yard and patio was just completed.  Fun for everyone and the babies were on their best behavior.

Getting Started

Heidi & Henry meet Bridget at the hospital

Bridget Marie Fortna

Before we leave for the hospital
Wish me luck at starting and maintaining a blog to keep family and friends up to date on the ever evolving Fortna Family of Five.  I feel this will be easiest to share our daily lives instead of sending emails and texts to individuals.  I'm open to your feedback as well since this is uncharted territory for me, and I will try not to lean on Andy for tech support.
